Nancy Wilson was born 20th February 1937 in Chillicothe. She was the daughter of Olden Wilson, an ironworker, as well as Lillian Ryan (a former housemaid). Nancy was the youngest of six kids. The father of Nancy was a musician and would play records at home. It had a huge influence on her as a child. She already knew she would be a musician by the time she was 4 years old. She developed her skills by performing in the church choir. In her early teens, she won a talent show on TV and started appearing regularly in the Skyline Melodies Tv Show while at the time she was still in high school. It was at that time that she began to work in night clubs at that same age. Nancy was kicked out of Central State University in Ohio after being matriculating for a full year. In 1956 she made her first album with Rusty's Carolyn Club Big Band. They toured together throughout 1956 until 1958. In the band, Nancy released her first record in the studio of Dot Records. Cannonball Adderley told her to move to New York to further her career, and she moved to The Big Town in the year 1959. She was commissioned to sing in The Blue Morocco Night Club located in The Bronx and there was a place where Adderley's agent had seen her. He obtained a contract for the label Capitol Records in the year 1960. she debuted that year by releasing the single. Guess Who You Saw Today. Capitol issued 5 Nancy Wilson Albums in 2 years. Her first album was focused on R&B and then, with Adderley's influence, she started to take on jazz. The 1962 group collaboration of Nancy Wilson and Cannonball Adderley led her to prominence as she released her biggest smash Tell Me the Truth in 1963. In the year following, this led to her getting booked in the New York's Coconut Grove - the top nightclub in America.
