Jazz singer Nancy Wilson a three-time Grammy Award winner was born the 20th of February 1937 in Chillicothe Ohio to iron-worker Olden Wilson and his wife Lillian Ryan who worked as a domestic servant. Nancy was the youngest of six children. Nancy loved listening to the records of her father and his enthusiasm for music. Nancy knew that she was going to be a singer when she was just four years old. She began developing her talent by singing in the church choir. While still in high-school the singer was regularly featured on Skyline Melodies. When she was 15, Nancy began her professional career at nightclubs. Nancy was 17 at the time she completed high school. After attending Ohio Central State College - which is now Central State University - for one semester, Nancy quit to become a professional performer. Her first album was in Rusty's Carolyn Club Big Band, who she performed with between 1956 and 1958. Nancy's very first Dot Records recording was made when she was a member of the big band of the Carolyn Club. Cannonball addederley advised her to relocate to New York for her career and, in 1959, she moved into The Big Town. Within a month she got a gig singing in The Blue Morocco Night Club situated on Boston Road in The Bronx where Adderley's agent heard her and signed her. The contract was signed the label Capitol Records in the year 1960. she debuted that year, with a single. Guess Who I Stopped Today. Capitol released five Nancy Wilson records in just two years. Following the influence of Adderley she shifted her focus to R&B to jazz. Nancy Wilson and Cannonball Adderley joined forces in 1962 and helped push her up in the chart. The year 1963 was when she achieved her biggest hit through Tell Me the Truth. The following year, she was asked to perform in New York's Coconut Grove, the most sought-after night club in America.
